ELIZABETH BURKHAUSER MARK CIOCCA has been an area artist and educator for over two decades. His artwork is mainly in printmaking, illustration and recently, murals. He has taught art in kindergarten through college courses. He is an active participant on the local, state and national levels for both endeavors. PETER CUPPLE RACHEL DARE has her BFA in Sculpture from Marywood University. Since
2000, she has participated as a featured artist in many art exhibits
and events in the Scranton, PA area. She was awarded the Friendly
Sons of St. Patrick Corcoran Scholarship to study abroad in Ireland as
part of her undergraduate studies at Marywood. She was also awarded
the Undergraduate Student research grant from Marywood to partake in
workshops at Peter's Valley Craft Center in NJ.
VIRGINIA C. DAVIS is a graphic artist and amateur painter. Virginia lives in Kingston, PA with her husband David and they are the parents of David III. In 1974 she founded and continues to operate Virginia C. Davis Advertising agency. In addition to her agency work, Virginia was a part time graphic arts instructor for several years at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke, PA. In 2003 Marquis Art and Frame engaged Virginia to be show coordinator for galleries located in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, PA. In 2008 Virginia became active in Creative Business Interiors, a Steelcase office Furniture dealership operated by her husband David. Virginia is also associated with The Brill Company located in Ludington, MI as an independent manufacturer’s representative specializing in residence life furniture for colleges and universities. HANK FELLS Since his early days sketching in Northeast Pennsylvania, Henry "Hank" Fells has explored many creative avenues. After graduating from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, he worked as a freelance illustrator for major advertising agencies and publishing companies. He then established Environmental Design Associates, that painted murals in New York and other major east coast cities. Longing for a quieter environment, he moved back to Pennsylvania and created an innovated array of art works that ranged from organic mediums of wood and clay to serigraphs. He has composed a variety of public and private commissions. FRANK GORYL was born in NEPA and is currently living in self-built home in Madison Twp. with wife Susan and teenage boys Evan and Aaron. In March 2010, opened Moscow Clayworks a gallery for ceramic arts located at 223 N. Main St. in Moscow, PA. Frank says, "My work as a potter wants to remain simple. Without meaning. Without interpretation. Without metaphor. Metaverbal if you will. My work needs to remain in that place where my literary heroes have tried to safeguard images. A place kept sacred in the sanctuary of soul." moscowclayworks.com PETER HOFFER A native of Pennsylvania, Hoffer’s long-term affiliation with Scranton’s Marywood University is well known to the community and to the hundreds of students who have benefited by his tenure. He studied art at George Washington University, earned an MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, and completed post-graduate study at the Rochester Institute of Technology. While in school, Hoffer concentrated on refining his drawing and printmaking technique within the idiom of representational imagery, but in the span of his more than 30-year career he has explored many possibilities in two-dimensional media, culminating in his current, non-objective monoprint collages. JOE KLUCK is a local signmaker for over 25 yrs. He specializes in hand carved gold leaf signs. Joe is the creator of the comic strip "onionhead." He is a recently retired teacher who paints in oils and pastels. Joe paints and draws what he sees and has been exhibiting in galleries in Honesdale. signsaroundtown.net EARL LEAHMAN is a full-time, working professional artist. His studio is currently in Jessup, but he’ll be moving into a new one sometime in the near future. His work is in private and corporate collections across the country and he’s continually expanding his horizons. As of this writing he is framing work for a two-month, one person show at the Orazio Salati Gallery in Binghamton, New York, which opens April 2, 2010. He’ll be in a two person show at Artworks Gallery, Scranton, which will open the First Friday in July 2010. He also has a one man show currently at the John Heinze Wildlife Refuge in the Cusano Education Center, Philadelphia. Earl has been a roster artist with the PA Council on the Arts, Arts in Education program for the last 20 years and continues to teach in schools and community settings throughout the state. Check out his website! www.earlwlehman.com GRETCHEN LUDDERS ANDY MEDINA has been an avid photographer for over 30 years and became a member of AFA in 2004. He has been an active paticipant in AFA's member shows as well as many other local art events. A lifelong resident of NEPA, Andy has 30 plus years of executive experience in the area of consumer packaged goods. His career has included the development of many nationally branded products as well as several senior positions in operations management. He has an MS Chemistry and an MBA degree from the University of Scranton.

TED MICHALOWSKI work as courtroom artist for media coverage of high-profile trials has been broadcasted by CNN, CNN en Español, CBS News, ABC News, Fox News, WNEP-TV, WBRE-TV, and WYOU-TV. Michalowski has contributed illustrations to The New York Times, Disney, Electric City Weekly, Diamond City Weekly, and was the exclusive poster illustrator for The Northeast Theatre from their twelfth through sixteenth season. His artwork has shown in galleries locally and in various cities. Michalowski is an instructor at Marywood University, and Keystone College, teaching various courses in Drawing and Illustration, and is also a roster artist for the Northeast Intermediate Unit’s Artist in Residence Program. In 2006, 2008, and 2009 Michalowski was awarded Electric City's Best Visual Artist. Michalowski earned his MFA from the University of Hartford, and MA from Syracuse University. Ted also runs the weekly Drawing Social on Sundays, and Life Drawing Session on Tuesdays, at the AfA Gallery. NIKKI MOSER is a sculptor, teacher, mother, goddess, friend, in different orders on different days. She is an Instructor at Keystone College, and President of the Board at Afa Gallery in Scranton. Since 1991 she has been the owner of Sugar Jones Productions, a design/fabrication company. PAUL NIELSON from Greenfield Twsp. Paul has a BFA from Tyler School of Art/ Temple University, 1992. He is currently employed at Keystone College teaching a Jewelry and Small Metals Application course & at Marywood University teaching Sculpture. Paul is also a custom jewelry artisan, designer, manufacturer and repair-person. TOM NOONE JAY PAULUKONIS, a stained glass artisan with his own studio, served as Family Life Director in Sioux Falls, SD. JAMES PENEDOS, a self taught painter, started early by studying in depth the works and writings of great painters, doing many reproductions to learn the masters' techniques. Over the years, he has exhibited in galleries in New York City and Paris, France, as well as various galleries in Colorado, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. James is co-owner of The Springville Schoolhouse Art Studios, and one of the original founders of The Afa Gallery. LUIS PURóN has been actively involved in community-centered and for-profit arts since 1989. He was director and board treasurer of “a” cast in San Antonio, Texas. The non-profit provided beginning and emerging artists with space and support for projects in visual art, performance art, theater, music, and film. He collaborated with artists to help bring their experimental vision through while promoting this vision to the public. Purón secured operation funds for "a" cast through a grant from the city’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Department as well as through fundraising events and a series of film festivals. In 2000 he helped start and launch a for-profit visual art gallery in Texas where he was involved in curatorial as well as marketing activities. Purón has been a resident of Northeast Pennsylvania since 2002; he joined the Afa board in 2010. WARD ROE is a documentary and fine arts photographer and Chair of Keystone's art department. He earned a master of fine arts degree at Marywood University with a specialty in drawing and painting, then turned toward fine arts photography. With his cameras, he has captured diverse cultures and landmarks around the world, most recently in China. He develops lengthy series on a specific topic with dramatic in compositions and brilliantly rich colors. Mr. Roe's work has been published in notable publications, among them, the scholarly Photo Review, Art Now, American Craft and Ceramics Monthly. MICHAEL SORRENTINO is a PA artist who works in a multitude of mediums including: oil paints, pastels, ink, and sculpture. Michael attended the School of Visual Arts, earning a Bachelors of Arts in Illustration in 1997. After working as an artist in NYC for many years Michael returned to SVA to earn a Master’s of Art in Teaching in 2004. Michael currently teaches art at the Howard Gardner School, located in North Scranton. He is also active in volunteering for the Everhart Museum’s afterschool program Youth4Art program. TERRA STEELE received her Associates of Fine Arts at Keystone College, and her BA in Art History and minor in World Religion from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She currently resides in Dunmore, PA and spends much of her time entrenched in the local arts & culture community. In addition to painting, printmaking, & design-work, Terra teaches in the Art Department at Keystone College, works at ProActive Family Chiropractic with her fiancé and is a Master Instructor of Tang Soo Do karate at UTA Dalton.
